Capture

The capture is an exclusive procedure for credit card transactions. There are two types of capture:

  • Automatic capture: in the credit card authorization request send the Payment.Capture as "true".
  • Posterior capture: it is a separate request, made after sending the authorization request for the credit transaction.

In this section, we present the guidelines for doing the posterior capture.

When carrying out a capture, the merchant confirms that the amount authorized on the card may be charged by the financial institution issuing the card.

Important:

  • The capture executes the charge of the card;
  • Capture includes the sale value on the shopper's invoice;
  • The merchant only pays Cielo for captured transactions.

⚠️

The default deadline for capturing a transaction is 15 days.

Check your Cielo registration to confirm the limit enabled for your affiliation. After this period, it is not possible to capture the transaction. If the transaction is not captured, the authorization will expire and so the cardholder's card will not be charged and the limit will be released.

Partial or total capture

You can capture a partial amount or the total amount of the transaction.

Partial capture is the act of capturing a value less than the authorized value. This capture model can only occur once per transaction.

After capture, it is not possible to perform additional captures in the same order.

  • For partial capture, send in the request the desired Amount to be captured
  • For total capture, do not send Amount. The API will consider the total authorization Amount.

Transactions with a value of less than 20 cents in the financial schedule are not settled. We do not recommend capturing amounts less than 20 cents.
